Study Goal

Our primary objective will be to determine whether variations in bronchiolitis managements, including use of low-value health services, are associated with patient and family characteristics (e.g., race and ethnicity, socioeconomic status, language). Our secondary objective will evaluate whether variations found in our primary objective, are in turn associated with disparities in care and outcomes, specifically examining length of hospital stay, intensive care unit admission, need for mechanical ventilation, and death.

We’re looking for about 10 people to join our team. What's in it for you? Participation in an important review on overuse of low-value care services in children hospitalized with bronchiolitis – one of the most common causes of hospitalizations in children. And, of course, potential for authorship. Reviewers having fulfilled the following responsibilities will be offered the opportunity for authorship on the resulting publication: (i) Successful pre-screening of test set, 80% agreement, (ii) Review 800-1000 abstracts, (iii) Upload and review 50-100 full text articles, and (iv) Complete full text data extraction of 25-50 articles.

Children aged 0 to 24 months Diagnosed with bronchiolitis. Note: If article includes more than one disease (i.e. several infectious diseases or respiratory conditions), outcome and exposure data must be stratified by disease (i.e. bronchiolitis data reported separately) Study includes children who are admitted to hospital, in ANY inpatient ward, including mixed clinical settings (i.e. more than one type of ward, ICU and ward) Observational studies, interventional studies or randomized controlled trials, during hospitalisation Study must have data stratified by one or more sociodemographic variable (race, ethnicity, income level, rural vs. urban residence, language spoken, other markers of vulnerability or material deprivation) Study must present patterns of use individually for at least one of the low-value health services or report outcomes of interest during hospitalization stratified by sociodemographic factors: 1) chest x-ray, 2) respiratory viral testing, 3) antibiotics, 4) short-acting beta-agonists, 5) systemic corticosteroids, 6)intensive care use, 7) non-invasive ventilation (CPAP/BiPAP), 8) mechanical ventilation,9) death Published in or after the year 2000 Language: French or English	Incorrect population: Age range outside of 0 to 24 months.
